My 'Doctor Who' Journey!
I came to Doctor Who in about 1993, I think it was. I recall my mum saying ‘I think you’d like this!’, as she did with a lot of programmes that she remembered from her own childhood, from the original Star Trek to all the Gerry Anderson series (Stingray, Thunderbirds, Captain Scarlet ...) and, of course, Doctor Who. I still have a deep affection for all those shows, along with James Bond, Ghostbusters, Star Wars, Lost in Space and Land of the Giants and Buffy the Vampire Slayer. I love the genre and, while my list of favourites is probably endless, it's definitely Doctor Who that means the most to me. I worked my way through repeats on BBC2, videos & DVD's, Target novels (a friend from swimming lessons introduced me to them, at the local library) and original novels, in becoming a fully fledged fan. The TV Movie happened in 1996 and I was really on the slippery slope! I haven't looked back since. This is my personal journey through time and space.
I'm surprised that I haven't started a website before, on my Doctor Who ramblings, it's something I've often thought about doing. I recently wrote a piece for 'You and Who', on how I came to love Doctor Who, and it has inspired me no end. I've always loved writing and I have a desire, more than ever, to write more about Doctor Who, now that I've finally started. I have to say a big thank you to J.R. Southall for a lot of that inspiration, thanks to his 'You and Who' project, and allowing me to get involved in something quite special. My plan here is to journey from era to era of the television show, taking in the books, the audios and the comics along the way (and anything else I see fit, in 'the randomiser'), hopefully offering my own, unique, perspective, on the greatest show in the galaxy. It will be a work in progress, as I dabble, so please bear with me and keep an eye on the updates page, as I add new things. This site is about why I love Doctor Who, so it's going to be an overwhelmingly postive trip, I'll focus on what I like most about a particular story or era. I'll touch on flaws, if I see them, but there isn't going to be a lot that is negative, these are not critical reviews. Doctor Who to me is about fun and enjoyment, and having a good time, and that is also the purpose of my ramblings. Welcome to my trip of a lifetime, I hope you get as much enjoyment from joining me, as I will get from sharing my journey with you!
